Safety Tips

The internet of 2006 taught us everything we need to know about staying safe online. Here it is.

Rules for Safe Surfing

This site keeps things simple: no accounts, no tracking profiles, no data harvesting. But a few common sense rules keep it safe for everyone.

  • Keep private info out of the guestbook. The guestbook is a public-style message wall. Do not post your home address, phone number, school, workplace, or anything else you would not want strangers on the 2006 internet reading. A screen name is all the identity it needs.
  • Never submit secrets through forms. No passwords, API keys, payment card numbers, bank details, government IDs, medical information, or confidential business documents. The forms deliver by email and email is not a vault. If a project involves sensitive material, say so in general terms and a secure channel can be arranged.
  • Be respectful. Tom said it best: be nice or be gone. Harassment, hate, spam, and creepy behavior get removed. Treat the guestbook like someone's living room, because it basically is.
  • Guestbook content may be moderated. Anything submitted to the guestbook can be reviewed, held, edited for formatting, or removed at any time. If your transmission vanishes, it probably tripped a filter or broke a rule.
  • External links leave this site. Banners and links to GitHub, Instagram, Dribbble, Spotify, YouTube, and other platforms open third party sites with their own rules and privacy practices. Once you leave, their policies apply, not this site's.
  • See something broken or sketchy? Report it. If you find a security issue, a broken page, suspicious content, or anything that looks wrong, report it through the project intake form and mention it is a site issue. Reports are read personally.

For the full details on how information is handled, read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
